Cultural Awareness
I don't have to think much about why we are reading this stories. It is quite easy to see that we need to be aware of other cultures around us and not just the American lifestyle. There are so many things going on in our world, that sometimes people are unaware of. I always felt I was somewhat culturally aware. Taking the time to learn about other people and their cultures, to greater respect them. But I had no idea that there was such a big issue with American Indians. I had no idea they were still treated so unfairly. In the Chinese story, I noticed that within the race there were still racial issues. There was discrimination among their "own" kind. It appears to be common that no matter what race, women are still lower than men. It is mentioned in the story about American Indians, quoted by Adolf Hitler " if you tell a lie big nough and often enough, it will be believed." I greatly agree with this quote. It is that if you tell someone they are something for so long, they eventually believe it and become it. I always thought Indian men where kind, and nature loving. But as a society they were believed to be violent, and now they have become just that. This just goes to show how much of an effect the society can have on a single person or a group as a whole. I think more people should be aware of cultural issues and be more accepting of cultural differences. I thought those differences were what was suppose to make America so great, not how well we can Americanize everyone.
