The readings from this past week give a great depiction of what life is like being the target of prejudice and racism. I never heard the term JAP referring to a jewish american pirncess before this reading and i find it real interesting that it is also a derrogatory term used to describe people of japanese background. It is amazing how the writing shows american's attitudes toward japanese people before and after the war. Before the war, japanese people were looked at as a peaceful culture that were very mild by nature. As soon as world war 2 broke out, the mentality of the american people changed and japanese people were now considered ruthless, barbaric people who had no sensitivity. The second writing about struggle with gender identity explains how people are born like this at birth, but i feel rather that this is psychologically induced behavior. Some people just aren't blessed witht the gender figure society expects, and when society puts these people down for their inferior physical features, it causes them to react in a way that they agree with their peers. These people then subject themselves to extremely dangerous operations that can potentially put their lifes at stake, all for the reason of simply being accepted by society. these readings all hint at the underlying theme that society has a lot to do with the perception and forming of ones own opinions of themselves.
