Survivor 2006
Survivor, and all reality TV for that matter, relies on controversy for ratings. People love it when contestants argue, mess up, and break down. The way this season's show is set up allows Survivor to be packed with controversy. It doesn't matter if people agree with it or not, they will still watch it. If anything, this will expand their viewing audience because of certain people's beliefs. Also, the dispute creates free advertising. When people talk about the controversy on Survivor, they are still talking about Survivor. I did not know there even was a new season of Survivor until Mr. Severe brought it up in class today. Aside from the pathetic attempt to gain ratings, I do not believe there is anything terrible about doing the show that way. The contestants are all willing; they applied to be on the show. As long as all the teams are treated fairly, no one can really complain about anything. I really think that most of the drama that occurs is scripted anyway. The show probably wont go well, simply because if everyone gets along and has good clean fun, the rating will suffer. If people get too upset about the way the show is set up, its their fault for being swept up in a clever advertising campaign. I haven't heard anything about Survivor in years; this is simply an attempt to get the name out there again and regain lost popularity.
