Survivor Segregated

The thirteenth season of Survivor has a new twist, involving races. They have divided the 20 contestants into four teams: the Aitutaki (the Hispanic-American Tribe), the Raratonga (the Caucasian-American Tribe), the Manihiki (the African-American Tribe), and the Puka Puka (the Asian American Tribe). I think it sounds like a very intriguing idea, and although I am no fan of Survivor, I am anxious to see how it turns out. I assume the contestants on this show will be arguing amongst themselves, as they generally are on reality televisions shows. I believe the teams will be very competitive against one another, as they will each want to prove that their race is the best. I think some major conflicts will arise concerning racial differences. I also expect there to be a lot of tension in the atmosphere during the daily interactions of the contestants. They will be very aware of the segregation the producers have created, and it will most likely affect their actions. I think the producers have done this to try to spark interest in viewers. Survivor’s ratings have declined through the more recent episodes, and they were most likely looking for a way to make it new again. As survivor is a show consisting of social contact, I think producers wanted to implement racial issues, and observe not only the participants behavior, but the reactions of the viewers as well. Although I am uncertain as to whether this modification to the show is for the best, I am eager to see how it turns out as I may actually watch Survivor for the first time this season.
