Thoughts on Articles

I have come to a couple realizations after reading these articles. I found it interesting that there are so many problems facing all sorts of groups; yet most people are unfamiliar with a lot of them. It all falls back to where one is raised, I suppose. For instance, I am very used to hearing about "JAP"s in reference to Jewish girls. I am so familiar with it that in class, I was surprised to hear that others were unfamiliar with the term. It was a realization that not everyone is from the same area as me. That is the main focus of these articles, to expose all of us to parts of the world that we never even knew existed. Some of the articles are familiar, and therefore do not have the same meaning as they would to someone else. At the same time, I might read an article I find fascinating, but another might not think it as anything special. That is why we are reading such a large variety of articles, to make sure that everyone will be exposed to something new. I cartainly was.
There is not a very big market for illegal hormones or dangerous silicone pumps where I am from. Many of these things I had not even heard of before reading that article. Again, it all comes down to where I'm from. North Shore Chicago is fairly well known for being an area where people are generally well off. The article specifically pointed out that the big problems are in areas that are not so well off. Even the title suggests that the content of the article would not be something that is known in the North Shore. This article was one that really showed me something new.
