Sports, Beer, and Women
As I sit here and watch the colts game on television, I am noticing some things in the advertisements that are very different than something that might be shown on lifetime or nickelodeon. The comercials are primarliy geared toward sport loving manly men that are into cars, technology, food, beer, and women. On one commercial segment there were three car commercials in a row, and then a cell phone commercial with a very attractive women plastered all over the screen, followed by a restraunt advertising some very tasy, but not so healthy, "football" food, and topped off with a cold refreshing beer commercial. These are the things that men watching a football game will pay attention to. They probably wouldnt want to see the newest squirt gun, or barbie accesory that the commercials on nickelodeon would show, or dove chocolate and sears home sale event as a station like lifetime (geared toward women) would show. The Colts game, or any football game for that matter, has a primary male audience, so advertisers will advertise things that Males will be attarcted to. Their idea to put attractive women, food, and cars is smart on their part because in reality, males pay attention to those kind of things.
After we were assigned this assignment, I realized that I am more likely to change the channel on the commercials, because they do not apply or appeal to me in any way, than I would if I were watching a channel where the advertising was geared to my interests. The Advertising companies today really do a good job of targeting specific audiences by what show is playing, and gear the advertisements toward those peoples interests.
