Cinderella Story
The short film, "No Cinderella Story," that we watched in class on Monday discussed the lives of teenages today. It talked about how the only thing teenagers are doing nowadays is having sex all the time and that they are starting at very young ages. However, this was not necessarily an accurate representation of young people, but rather a view of only the lives of a small group of people with similar backgrounds. In this film the the producer/director interviewed around five girls and only two boys. All of these people were from Statan Island, had divorced parents, and liked to party. It seemed as though this film was trying to say that everyone who has divorced parents and likes to party are ultimately going to have sex. Of course, this is not always the case. Wherever you go you are sure to find teens that have the same viewpoints and engage in the same activities as the ones in this film. But this film made it seem as though that was the perception of every teenager in America today.
I found it unbelievable that the teenagers interviewed all claimed that their justification for engaging in sex, at such a young age, was because Statan Island is boring and they have nothing else to do. If you ask kids all aroud the country about the place they live the majority are going to say the exact same thing; Statan Island is no different. I used to same the same thing about the place where I grew up, but I did not turn to sex to satisfy my bordom.
I believe that the maker of this film would have had a much better argument if he had taken teenagers from all over the country and from all walks of life. Then we could have seen a better representation of what American teens are really like today.
