Saturday: Family curse
The short film that I viewed on my own from reel works was "family curse". The film discussed how bipolar disorder ran in the narrators family, and how the unfortunate disease led to depression, alomost divorce, suicide attempts, and alcoholism all from the mother. The little sister says that she, and her other sister, witnessed in 2001 their mother trying to slit her wrists. I couldn't help but think to myself the inpressionn that this women must be leaving on her girls. They are exposed to excessive drinking, depression, sucicide and fighting between the parents, and are expected to still carry out a normal childhood. I can not even begin to imagine the pain and suffering that the entire family must feel due to the hereditary disease, as well as the doom that the girls face when they become adults. I know from experience pain from family issues. Concentration in school is much harder, grades drop due to the energy put into the issue instead of schoolwork, and social lives diminish. They briefly discuss in the film how careful the know they must be when it comes to drinking. If something like alcoholism runs in the family, then those not yet exposed to it, must be extremely careful.
We all have some kind of family curse. Weather it be something like depression, alcoholism, high cholosterol, high iron, or even something more extreme like bipolarism, we all must face the issue. Taking the necesary steps to prevent yourself from that "curse" is the best thing someone could do. If you know that alcoholosm runs in the family, then like the girl in the fil said, she stays as far away from alcohol as possible, in fear that she might take that first drink and never be able to stop. Facing our issues is scary, and intimidating at times, but evrybody has to do. We have to do it for ourselves.
