The video - at risk

The video, “At Risk,” describes the hardships of a guy growing up, which then somehow leads him to drugs and playing hookey at school. He is initially a good student, getting good grades, but with the death of his father and close aunt, he falls into a spiral that leads him to the world of drugs, skipping school, and leads him to hanging out with the wrong crowd. The video shows how he is still in the mode of skipping school and doing drugs, yet all his mother can do is say how her son is failing school. The video did not seem set out to argue why the boy left school and did drugs, really only describing what he currently does in contrast to school. It closes being very open ended, leaving one to ask, “Why?” He does not ever get back on track, rather it ends with the mother showing how bad his grades are, and how bad his current situation in school now is because of the decisions he made in his past. The video did not go in depth enough in my view into how far his father or aunts death really affected him socially and mentally, which drove him into ditching school. It almost seems like he wants to repent at the end, yet everything in the clip seems so out there, with no real connections, and leaving me asking the why and what the clip actually stands for. I think that the clip needed some cohesiveness, along with better planning and organization to actually prove something.
