survival of the races
I have never seen the show Survivor, nor have I ever cared to, but after researching this assignment my interests are peaked. I have no idea how it usually works, but this time there are 4 teams of 5 people each. There is however, one catch: each team consists of one specific race of people. There is the Aitutaki, the Hispanic-American team, the Raratonga, the Caucasion-American tteam, the Manihiki, the African-American team, and the Puka Puka, the Asian-American team. I'm not sure how it works, but I'm sure this has its ups and its downs.
To start, I'm sure producers did it, because this is the 13th season and a person can only take so much Survivor. So they added a change. I also think they did it to bring in new viewers. I'll admit again, I've never been interested in watching this show, but now I'm eager to see how it turns out. It could either go well, and just be like regular Survivor or things could go badly not just between teams, but within them as well.
If teams are broken up and divided among races, I can almost see this as a "who's the better race" sort of battle, which would be good for ratings, but bad for contestants. Or, things will go fine between races but tension will build up within tribes because of gender. If everyone is of the same race, who becomes the scapegoat? Gender could become a big problem with this new Survivor.
Since I have no knowledge of how Survivor usually works, I can't make a definite assumption of how this will turnout, but I am intrigued, so my compliments to producers on finding a way to bring Survivor back into the mainstream for atleast one more season! However, I don't see this as a lasting tradition.
