Disney Movies
The female gender role and appearance has greatly changed through time, with Disney movies seemingly changing accordingly or maybe even influencing the change in women in society. From, to Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and other princess type Disney movies, each movie represents the female as a caring, gentle beautiful woman, who seemingly keeps their thoughts and ideas to themselves. They seem to be polished, civilized, and studious, keeping up with the idea of the “perfect” or ideal woman. As time progressed, or more movies were made, the female ideal and design has changed within these movies, almost representing the change in female role in today's society. Characters like Jasmine and Pocahontas represent women in today’s society, speaking their mind and doing what they want. They try to oppose the situation given to them, wanting to do what they want, while also dressing “looser” compared to the princess movies of the past. One of the latest Disney movies, The Incredibles, places the female as one of the key heroes in the middle of the action, completely different than any other movie idea released. Women in these Disney movies have slowly advanced from a fake, prude, ideal princess-like stereotype, to a more modern world representation of how women are in society today. This does not mean that some women in society today still do not believe in these ideals, but it is just a representation of the change of times and ideals.
