Journey to the Unknown/At Risk
The first idea that came to mind when watching “Journey to the Unknown” was that this movie is a sequel to “No Cindarella Story.” The issue of teen pregnancy is shown form a female’s point of view. I don’t see these girls respecting themselves at all. They are in relationships where the male doesn’t respect them at all. One girl even clams that there is no relationship between the two, saying, “All we do is fuck.” For the other girl, as if she didn’t learn her lesson the first time, still has unprotected sex with her “boyfriend.” She talks about how shocked she was when she found out she was pregnant and didn’t know what she was going to do. Having a miscarriage wasn’t enough to tech the responsibilities that come with having sex. We don’t see the males side of the story, but it is assumed that these guys are not responsible and don’t have respect for themselves either. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited about having children, but I can wait till the time is right. These girls lack role modals to teach them the importance of respecting themselves.
The second movie I chose to watch was “At Risk.” This guy talks about how he used to go to school and get good grades. Then he blames his addiction of cutting class of the death of his aunt and his father leaving the family. Although his friends are big drug users, he manages to stay clean. His aunt died because of drug use and that had a huge impact on his life. I feel that I can relate to this guy to some degree because I had a lack of interest is school. I didn’t see the importance of going to class. For some reason I joined the Air Force and figured out for myself that if I wanted to be happy in life, I needed to go back to school. What will it talk for these kids to realize the importance of an education? They see living for the now, and not the future. The video takes place in
