ENGL 106 Evaluation
This class was definitely not what I expected it to be. After we were assigned our first reading and I read it, I was asking myself, “What the heck is this class?” I still really do not like that story, but now I understand what the meaning behind of it was. I really think this class opened my mind up to thinking deeper about certain situations and evaluating people’s responses and actions more. When I am watching TV I find myself seeing the topics that we have discussed, such as homosocial bond, memetic desire, mob violence, scapegoats, heternormative, assimilation, and emasculation. Our discussions in class were very interesting and fun to me. It was hard to put those thoughts down on paper though. I never really figured out how to go about that. This class was very challenging and required a lot of time, more so than I thought it would. This was unfortunate for me though. I want to be a nurse, but I have other classes that go more towards my major that I had to develop my time to. I liked taking this class, I just wish it would have not been as challenging so I could have done better in it while still being able to do well in my other classes. Even though English does not apply to every major. I think it is important to be able to write well, speak well, and to expand your horizons about what is going on in the world around you. There are a lot of kids that come from small towns that are not aware of all the stereotypes and discrimination in our country today. I do feel that my writing skills have improved and my expectations were met.
