Myspace and Yourspace
The glittery pink explosions with JoJo serenading me as I browse, to the Black and red skulls, with an unheard of band blaring the electric guitar. The myspace mania in the past year has exploded. People accross America have turned to this online profile as a source of self representation.
As I browsed, I was very focused on the layouts of the various pages. There were some extremes that were caked with scrolling pictures, fancy mouse settings, and animated features, that were placed on the page to represent who that oerson was. I could tell by the difference in profiles the "popular girls" from the "geeky girls", and the "jock boys" from the "nerds of the school". From the colors that they chose, to the songs that blared from the computer speakers, personality was immediatly thrown out to the browser. The Popular girls had pictures of them and lots of friends, along with the famous "myspace pose", which is simply the person taking a picture of themself with kissy lips. YES....wierd I know, but it is all over myspace. The guys profiles are very different from the girls. As logan stated in class, the guys don't smile in any of the pictures, and if there is any muscle that girls will find attractive, then there is a picture of it. (abs, chest, or biceps) The profiles are usually dark colors, and depending on the interest of the male, are decked out in sports or video game logos.
Myspace as a means of self representation is a new and quickly growing way to show who you are to the world. The profiles certainly leave room for personality, and people will continue to push the envelope with myspace mania.
