The second simpsons episode we watched was very similiar to Lord of the Flies, but also had some differeences. In the show, all of the children become stranded on the island after their bus crashed into a bridge and into water. In the book, a plane crash caused the children to become marooned. Also in the book, all of the children were males where in the show there were both male and females. Shortly after they swam ashore, Bart blew a conch shell to get everyone's attention and laid out a plan for everyone to follow in order to survuve. It was pretty obvious he assumed the role that Ralph did in the novel. Meliville is referred to as piggy in the story, but only for the reason that they used his glasses to start a fire. Following building a fire, they set out to build a shelter and gather food . After they realized that their shelter and food was insufficient, Bart retrieves a cooler from the bus. In the morning, the food is gone from the cooler and Melvile is accused of stealing food. They cannot prove he ate the food, so everyone is an uproar of his innocence except for Bart and Lisa. Nelson, the bully, creates a rebellion against the three of them and assumes the role of Jack in the book. The rest of the children organize a hunt and they chase the three into a cave. They then find out the a boar had been eating their food and roast it just as they did in the book. In general, the two plots were similar, but Matt Groenig did put his own twist on the story to make it more humorous and also to fit it into a half hour show.
