characters

Walt Disney has created an empire that rules children's entertainment. Disney is known for its fairytale animated movies that involve a beautiful princess. The storylines are very different, but it can always be assumed that there is a female figure that is at the focal point of the plot. These female characters are very famous characters that almost every american knows. Snow white, Cinderella, Alice, Pocahantas, and jasmine are all cartoon female icons that disney created. Children nowadays also look up to these cartoons as well. you can always count on seeing little girls dressed up as their favorite disney character on halloween. There is a problem with these female characters though. If you look at the figure and clothing of the earlier characters such as snow white. She dressed very traditionally in a dress no skin revealing at all except for maybe her high sleeves on the dress. However, as the movies progress through the years the character become much more revealing than the previous ones. The next movie tthat their is a noticeable change in character composition is Jasmine for the movie Aladdin. Her figure is very slender with lots of curves and also her midriff is revealing with no shoulder straps on her top. This is obviously a drastic transformation from the classical snow white image. I do understand that trends change and fashion does as well and in order for these movies to sell, they need to be with the times, but they are afterall, childrens movies. i'm not suggesting that they toally cut back on the attire and figure of female characters, but the animators do need to keep in mind the target audience and how impressionable they are.
