Cosmo

101 sex tricks to try before you die, The certain kind of sex he's thinking about 24/7, How to get the looks guys crave, and The most crucial thing to ask your Gyno, are some of the headlines that are plastered on the cover of the September 2006 edition to Cosmopolitan. I have read this magazine before, and usually flip through and read the things that I find interesting, but never before have I realized how much this magazine probably influences young readers. Obviously the magazine is geared toward young adults who are interested in fashion, gossip, and sex. The problem with this magazine, is that anyone is able to pick it up at a corner drug store, and read all about sex tricks, and this could pose problems if eleven year old girls read this text and feel as if it is geared toward them. I have heard Cosmopolitan Magazine referred to as "girl porn" before, because of the sexual rhetoric, instead of visual that guys usually like. Cosmopolitan explains things in great detail that young readers should never see or read. Cosmo girl, on the other hand, is just simply a toned down version of the magazine. The same gossip, and fashion tips are in Cosmo girl, and the same "how to get sexy stares from guys" dance accross the headlines of the cover. If this is the toned down version of the magazine, and actually includes the word "girl" in the title, then from a mothers stand point, I would think that something like that would be appropriate for my little "girl". Cosmo focuses on winning acceptance from the oppisite gender, and to me, they should be teaching girls more important things like study tips for entering high School. these are tings that middle school girls should be focused on, not how to look sexy for other 13 year old boys who aren'e even worrying about girls yet, and probably are completly oblivious to the extra blush that his classmate put on that day.
