Cosmo
As I saw the cover of a Cosmopolitan magazine, I was surprised by the sexual buzzwords and content. From, “GUYS AND SEX,” to, “Get a Sexy Bod,” the magazine definitely emphasizes sexiness and beauty for teenage girls. Today, someone like me would not expect this to be such a big deal considering the change in today’s society. I think the magazine is another form of media that pressures girls in present day society to HAVE to have these traits, to have to think this way, in order to keep up with the fast changing times. I do not know really pay attention to other popular girl’s magazines, but I bet there definitely are many magazines that portray the same ideas and tips as Cosmopolitan. These magazines all combined force the sexy female image on all teenagers, but after I thought about it, the same type of ideal and image forcing happens with teenage guys too.
Maybe it is just a girl thing, since when I look at those type of feminine magazines, they leave me wondering, “Who the **** would waste their money on this shit?” I can almost relate the general ideas in the magazines to the princess or “perfect” woman idea, but in this case it deals with the image and ideas of the definition of the sexy or popular girls of today. The magazines to me portray false or “too” perfect scenarios, or too perfect beauty standards, just like how the image of a princess portrays too perfect beauty and obedience. I still can not see why anyone would buy it except for pure kicks and entertainment, but who knows, I’m just a guy.
