Obviously we watched this episode of the Simpsons today because of how closely it tied together with Lord of the Flies. Of course they didn’t compare completely because of the short amount of time used and the fact that it is the Simpsons. In this episode that portrayed Lord of the Flies, it is immediately clear the Millhouse is compared to being Piggy from the book. He is the weakest on the island and is used as the scapegoat fairly quickly. Lisa and Bart both have aspects that could be compared to Ralph. Bart dove down to the bus to get food, and immediately everyone liked him, such as Ralph gaining respect form having the conch. Lisa also can be compared, and most likely is portrayed to be Ralph. She is logical and tries to keep order and rules among the group, without having much luck. Towards the end, Jack Merridew, is played by Nelson. Nelson has always been the bully in the Simpsons, and tries to gain attention and respect with harsh power. Nelson gets many followers, paints his face, and leads the attack, just like Jack. The audience geared towards in this episode, and all episodes for the Simpsons is for everyone. The story line is geared towards educated adults, with many themes and plots that are not easily understood by others. The show is also geared towards younger people because of the humor. You do not need to understand what they are basing the show off of to get a good laugh. It does help, however, to get a deeper understanding of the show.
