Grey's Transexual Couple

Well, it is official. I have watched my first episode of Grey's Anatomy and I'd have to say, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Although at many times I was overwhelmed with sadness, I could see how much of the episode related to class, particularly with gender roles. To begin with, the introduction of Daniel or 'Donna' as she likes to be called is one of the most important moments in the episode. This moment establishes society's problem with accepting 'Donna' as a woman. The male doctor has no problem while Grey is very uncomfortable with the experience (easily obtainable observation involving her facial expressions). The wife of 'Donna' is also significantly overwhelmed by the fact that her husband is unsatisfied with his masculinity and wishes to become a woman. The struggle with masculinity is not limited to Donna but also with two of the males that go on the camping trip. Although I do not recall the name of these two males, their quick result to fight about their problem is a sign of their masculinity. When told by the elderly black fellow that this will be an "open-hand" fight, I almost fell out of my chair. These guys both feel that in order to protect their masculinity they must fight, but in order to do that, they must slap the hell out of each other. I also think that the relationship between the gay couple who went on the camping trip is a learning experience for everyone as well. Particularly for the guy who is having problems with his wife or girlfriend (it's my first episode so try to stick with me). When told that the gay couple is thinking about adopting kids, the other guy (a straight man) is able to relate to their struggles of having only "one person" there to raise the child. I think that the end of the episode where the wife of 'Donna' comes back is also a very symbolic gesture that symbolizes society's acceptance of the gender confusion that Donna is experiencing. I'd like to end this blog with this: I think Grey should have ended up with the other guy, I mean come on he was trying his hardest but still gets shut down...
