Grey's Rhetoric of Gender
I've never actually sat down to watch this show before, so bear with me if I get the names wrong or what not. There were many events taht occured in this episode that reminded me of instances of discussion during class. The first one was of course Daniel... excuse me, Donna. "She" wished to become a woman, but apparently the drugs "she" was taking to prepare herself for the operation was giving her cancer. Donna was faced with the choice, live a man or die a woman. What was truly sad was that "she" was prepared to die a woman. What was also strange to me is that Donna had a wife that was fully supporting in the operation (usually I could not see a woman support her husband in becoming a woman as well). The wife was angry that Donna was making this decision, to die a woman, and left, but eventually returned by the episodes end. Another topic from this episode that related to class discussions was the male only camping trip (Now here is where the naming will be ignored on the account that I can't remember anyone's name so I'll have to stick with descriptions). The highlight of this trip was of course the fight, which started because some one's masculinity was hurt. I personally found it funny that they got angry that they had to have a "sissy" slap fight, but they did it anyway to get to the other guy. Lastly, there appears to be an erotic triangle of some sort between Mc Steamy, Mc Dreamy and Grey. I'm sorry if I got any of this wrong, once again, I don't watch this show and am not familiar with who is who.
